Singapore and Brunei marked 50 years of bilateral defence relations with a joint military parade at Muara Naval Base. The event brought together 256 personnel from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), as announced in a news release by Singapore's Ministry of Defence (MINDEF).

Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah attended the milestone event. Senior officials present also included Singapore Defence Minister Chan Chun Sing, Chief of Defence Force Vice-Admiral Aaron Beng, Brunei's Minister of Defence II Halbi Mohd Yussof, and RBAF Commander Major-General Muhammad Haszaimi Bol Hassan.

The parade featured contingents representing the land, naval, and air forces of both nations. Operational assets also participated in coordinated demonstrations, including a sail-past by three vessels: the Republic of Singapore Navy's maritime security and response vessel Protector, alongside the Royal Brunei Navy's patrol vessel KDB AS-SIDDIQ and offshore patrol vessel KDB DARUSSALAM. The event also included an aerial fly-past featuring two Republic of Singapore Air Force H225M medium-lift helicopters and three Royal Brunei Air Force S-70i Black Hawk helicopters.

Following the parade, Prime Minister Wong and Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah launched and toured a commemorative gallery detailing historic milestones from the past five decades of bilateral defence cooperation. The parade constitutes part of a year-long series of commemorative activities marking the golden jubilee of relations.

According to MINDEF, the bilateral defence partnership is underpinned by strong leadership, institutional framework, and people-to-people connections. Both defence establishments maintain regular interaction through high-level visits, bilateral training exercises, professional exchanges, and reciprocal course attendances. How will these long-standing institutional partnerships shape regional security collaboration in the coming decades?
